question about my new intake

Well I got an edlebrock performer intake and a 600 carb for my car, to get rid of the TBI, and ran into a problem. First: I didnt pay for the intake, I got it for free, so if it doesnt work, no harm. But I noticed on summit racing, that the intake I have in my possesion is for 55-86 small blocks. Well mine is an 89 of course, so the only problem/difference we ran into when seeing if the intake fit, was that the 4 middle bolts (2 each side) were at a different angle, and might not work. Does edelbrock make any kind of adapter kit or anything. Here is what Im talking about: It is pretty amatuer drawing. By the way, remember these are only the middle bolt holes, and also, I exagerated the difference in angles in the drawing. But, what my question finally is, is if we can southern engineer this to make it work, or last resort I will have to by a Vortec performer RPM, and get this all over with. Thanks guys,

Just wait until you get the Vortec heads and then buy a Vortec Victor Jr. Air Gap intake. THat is what I would do. Or if you want to jerry rig it, you can drill out your intake (center bolt holes) that way the bolts will allign with the 89 style heads. Or you could just leave the center bolts out and seal the holes on the intake with epoxy and hope that the intake makes a good seal to the heads. The Vortec heads / intakes only have two bolts in front and two in the back on both sides (no center bolts), so the epoxy idea might work.

Just take a die grinder and hog out the center holes. Its done all the time. Grind, then test fit the intake, grind some more. Do this until it fits right and the bolts thread easily by hand.

Thanks guy, I think I am just going to elongate the holes. I dont have quite enough money for the vortec intake, plus, I want to get screw in studs on my vortecs before I do anything with them. Thanks again guys,

Common problem, just re-drill the 4 center holes and enjoy your car.

I just did the swap on my 87. The Edelbrock #2101 is what the catalog showed, but the middle bolt holes were like you describe.

I was told by two people that I could modify the intake if I wanted or go back & get the correct one, which turned out to be #2104 which is what I did.

Two other minor differences was the the corner bolt drivers front on the 2101 was going to rub some & on the 2104 it did not which help as there was an air conditioner support there along with the bolt. Also on the passenger side back toward the distributor, the 2104 had a heater hose connection that I needed & the 2101 did not.

All this could have been worked through, but I decided to just get the correct one since it was available.

Thanks guys, I should be doing this tommorow. Just one last thing.... What did you use to drill them with. Some kind of dremel tool, I hopefully will find something that wont cost much more to put on my free intake. Thanks for the responses guys.
