Air Intake Hole!

In my '89 IROC's stock air intake, there's a hole between the air filters and MAF sensor. It's tapped with a metal sleeve like something should be fitting inside there. What is it??? Am I missing a sensor or something?

that's nothing to worry about. it's a V6 intake assembly. the hole your talking about is used for IAT A.K.A. MAT on our tpi engines. i have a V6 intake on mine as well since all the V8 ones are always cracked .

It's kindof hard to see my little red circle and arrow, but even if this is a v-6 assembly should this hole be open? Isn't it letting a bunch of unfiltered air into the engine through the MAF???

it should be plugged on a MAF car. looks like someone put a V6 air housing in.

Plug it for now. You could always plug it with another IAT sensor, then extend the harness to reach that one and abandon the one under the plenum. My limited understanding of S-D TPIs is that the IAT has more of a role in fuel trim than on the earlier MAF TPI scheme, so your benefits may be negligible. Someone on the PROM Tuning page could probably give you a more definitive answer to that belief.

Yep, its for the intake temp sensor. Moving the sensor on a MAF car will show no benifits, it is just used for EGR on a MAF TPI setup. Plug the hole with either a pipe plug or a spare sensor.

Good to know. I wouldn't have known what the hell that was.
