i do have one question about an exhaust leak though

Not from my experience and I have had many exhaust leaks.

If the tick and sluggish feeling happened at the same time you might want to investigate further. Ticking can come from your valve train. Bad lifters, studs pulling out, ect..... and if the valve train is not opening your valve correctly it could cause poor running conditions.

Sounds like you will be doing a V8 swap soon.

my engine is only 8 months old with a couple thousand miles on it. it still has a warranty and im not really worried about swapping to a v8 because if i was i wouldve when my piston rings blew.

valve trains and rockers? in your honest opinion what would you say leak or valves. is it possible for the ticking to be exhaust and the sluggishness to be a completely different problem?

oh yea and joc i checked out your post but mine is mpfi not carb but thanks anyway

So if it has a warranty, don't bother troubleshooting it yourself. Take it to the people who warrantee'd it and tell them to fix it.

Without getting burnt, hold your hand around the exhaust manifolds and y-pipe to see if you can feel the exhaust hitting your hand somwhere. Should be where the manifold bolts to the heads or where it connects to the y-pipe. It's pretty noticeable when you feel it.

But you need to figure out the sluggishness anyway. Has it been doing that since you installed it or just recently?

Thirdgen v6's are famous for snapping the heads off the manifold bolts. I'd be willing to bet one of yours is snapped and theres your exhaust leak, hence the ticking. My v6 has one snapped, so it ticks, and I gotta give it a little gas starting in the cold.
