squeal

My camaro( 86 irocz engine code F) after it warms up makes a squealing noise similiar to a belt squeal, but if i take all the belts off it still does it. I took it to the dealer and they unbolted the torque converter so its not the tranny makin that noise, we put in a fuel pressure regulator kit bc thats what two people told us to do. Still does it. Could it be a leaking o ring around one of the injectors making it do that. OK new problem with my camaro. Sometimes the check engine will come on and the car will not run well at all. It will stall at traffic lights. I have no idea what makes it do this, it also will haev throttle surges while driving. But when the check engine light doesnt come on it, it will run fine, except for that squeal.
I hope someone can help me out. I am 16( not one of the punks that peels out with my camaro, i dont bc tires are too expensive and my dad would kill me, i go easy with it) so being 16 i dont have 1000 dollars to dump at the local chevy dealer to have them tell me they dont know and that a new camaro z28 is $21000.
It has TPI and has sat for like 4 yrs hten i bougth it and it sat for another yr until i starting driving it. THe sound is at idle and up through 2000 but u cant reallt tell if it goes any higher bc of the other noises from running. Come on, tell me all you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can't help ya with the squeal, noises are too subjective....but are generally caused by rotating objects, or vacuum leaks.

About the SE light, look through the Tech Area on the main page to see how to pull the codes from the ALDL connector,, post the codes and we can so from there.

OK First off, find out what code it's throwing when the engine light comes on. In the FAQ I think or somewhere in the tech section is a document saying how to do this, fairly simple if you own a paperclip. If you don't already own a paperclip, your best option is probably to steal one from a friend, your parents, school, etc. Purchasing them can run you as much as a dollar or two.

That may or may not be related to the squealing. Most likely whatever the code is, it makes the computer go into "limp home" mode... where it runs VERY rich and doesn't advance the timing. Runs very poorly.

What kind of squealing is it? High pitched, low, loud, quiet? Does it get louder with higher RPMs or stay the same? Is it a metallic sound like metal rubbing on something, or a whistling airy noise or does it sound exactly like a loose belt or what?

Do you have ANY idea where (geographically) it's coming from? The front of the engine, the back, top, bottom, passenger area, etc?

This may sound stupid, but try disconnecting the pcv line from the top of the valve pan. Mine does the same thing. On mine there is so much vaccume it squeals @ the main seal. I cant figure out why. Let me know if this is a fix.

You might want to check for cracks in the heads...Once I had a head go bad on a 4-cylinder Cavalier. Since there's a vacuum present in the combustion chamber, air was being sucked in through the crack along with a warped head. It squealed SO loud!

Look for coolant where it shouldn't be. That's your first indication.

hey thanks guy, i pulled out the pcv valve and the noise stopped, so i had my brother look at it to try and fix it, he noticed that the two vacuum lines that goes to the TB( on the TPI) and they were backwards, one wasnt supposed to have manifold vacuum, so he switched them, and the noise went away. The chevy dealer couldnt tell me that but my brother did GO FIGURE. but thanks a lot for leading me to the PCV valve.

Heh, BMW's do that too. It "whistles" at the front crank seal when the breather is stopped up. Maybe its better that way, if it is constantly sucking in, oil can't leak out, can it? Thats cool that you found that.
