Cruise control questions

Ok, my cruise control is beginning to upset me. If I have the engine off, I can hear the servo engage when I turn the switch on, but that's the only response I could get out of it. I checked everything that my chiltons told me to look at, and still nothing. Now, there is some broken plastic on the turn signal lever, so I plan on replacing that. But if that doesn't work, what else should I be looking for?

If that doesn't fix it, go to your GM dealer. We have a cruise control tester that hooks up to the servo, and will operate the servo manually, and will test the circuits that go to it. Usually very quick and painless. You could also get a wiring diagram and a multimeter and test everything manually.

P.S. Make sure that there is vacuum going to the servo, and that the throttle linkage is hooked up and not binding.

Does your speedometer work? (its a stupid question, but I have to ask it.)

Yeah, the speedo works. The cable isn't binding that I can tell. It's all adjusted properly. The vaccum line is hooked up, if it's working, I have no clue. Will it be getting any kind of suction I can test for at idle?

Also, what speed do I have to be going for it to engage?
