Accel u groove spark plug q's
Accel u groove spark plug q's
I am fixing to change my spark plugs but do not know which to get. Thought about delco rapid fires or accel u groove plugs. Which would you all prefer. Its a l69, with holley 4bbl and a mallory coil with accel cap rotor and wires. And can some one explain to me what the difference is between cold spark plugs and hot spark plugs?
I didnt like the u-groove plugs at all. I felt tlike I was actually losing power with them! Now I am using the Bosch Platinum +4's. They are pretty good and guarenteed for life! Hence I get new ones every year for free!

DO NOT USE ACCEL U-GROOVE PLUGS! I had these on my '86 & the end that fits into the wire boot started to seperate from the rest of the plug - they are friggen SCREWED ON!
I now use regular AC Delcos & they are fine.
Unless I ave this backwards, I believe "cold" plugs do not retain much heat for a hotter spark, & "hot" plugs soak up more heat for a milder spark, I'm not completely sure on this though.

I've had accel u-grooves in my car for about a year now and I'm happy with them. I checked them after about 15000mi. and they look great, much better than the bosch's I replaced them with. I would recommend them.
"Hot" and "Cold" refers to the ability of the plugs to transfer heat fromt he combustion chamber into the block, the hotter plug will transfer heat more slowly than a cold plug.
And by the way, for the idiot who posted above, many plugs have tips that screw on and off, it doesn't make them junk.......

If I were you I'd stick with the bosch or the ac delco's. My friend has a 92 camaro rs, and he put Accel U Groove's in his car. They felt the same as my ac delco's that I had in my firebird.
I have U-groovs, and they are doing fine 14,000miles later...
Gettin Platinum +4's next time thoguh.

Bosch Platinum is the only way to go? I know a guy who owns an auto shop, and he said that he pulled some bosch Platinum 4's out of a '97 monte carlo, and just threw them a way, and put some AC Delco's back in! performance is about the same, but for the price, AC delco is the best! Even thought those Bosch 4's have a life-time, you can't afford to be replacing plugs like that in a '97 monte carlo! You have to drop the engine to change them!

I've got Accel's in my brothers GTA. I needed the extra room of the shorter plug, but now I think Champion and others make shorter plugs. I havn't noticeed anything special good or bad as far as performance changes with them.

ACCEL U-GROOVE PLUGS SUCK BIGTIME!!! I was due for a tune up on my 87 GTA and took out my old plugs (SPLIT FIRES) and replaced them with the Accels...less than a week later, 2 of the plugs fouled...BAD!!! they were gapped correctly and installed correctly, its just that they are pieces of crap. So I quickly went out and bought myself Bosch Platinum +4's and was not only satisfied by the integrity of the plugs but I also felt a slight increase in performance...I still have the 2 plugs that fouled out on me bout a year ago and threw away the good ones so I can show all y friends what kind of crap they are and use them as an example to never ever buy them!!! Accel makes some damn good parts and electrical, but plugs are def not their forte. Dont make the same mistake!

I use accel shorty U's and I have never had a problem. they clear better than the stock ones. I used to use the ac and never had a problem either they both work great I also have used others but, don't bother just a lot of $$$ for nothing save it for a real mod.
