leaking oil from my valve cover breather

i'm having a problem with smoke blowing into the cabin through the shifter hole whenever i'm under heavy throttle and in gear. the other day i noticed that oil was dripping onto the valve cover from the breather. i took out the breather and put my hand over the hole, i could feel air puffing. when i goosed the throttle a few drops of oil sprayed onto my hand even though there is a baffle in the cover. so i think when i'm driving under load, oil drips onto the cover and then on the header. the filter element in the breather is saturated with oil. is there some other kind of breather i can get that won't do this?

my breather is of this style, it has several small holes around the perimeter of it on the bottom.

Sounds to me like you have too much crank case pressure. Replace the pcv and the hose that connects the pcv to the intake, and maybe the pcv grommet in the valve cover. Then replace the vent line on the passenger side that feeds the TB. Do you have oil in your throttle body? Then once all this is corrected, buy a K&N stem style breather. It's about 3 - 4 inches tall and will take the splashes alot better due to being taller than the one you are running.

ok i tested my pcv, it sucks really well. i have the pcv and oil fill plug on one cover and the breather is on the other. when i took out the pcv, smoke started coming out of it's hole, very noticeably. within seconds, smoke started coming out of the breather also. so what does that mean? i couldnt really tell what the smoke was from.

when i put the pcv back in and sealed the breather hole with my hand it sucked air in when i let my hand up so i know the pcv is drawing air through the crankcase.

would it hurt anything if i put the breather on the same cover as the pvc?

i'm starting to think my rings are going out. i think i'll try 10-40 next oil change

Sounds like the rings are gone.

Welcome to the world of aftermarket valve covers. That's exactly why I don't run them (one of the reasons anyway).... any of them, on any motor, ever, if I can at all avoid them.

Put your stock ones back on.
