Won't Pull Past 5000rpm

Hey all, a friend of mine has a '84 Z28 w/ a L69 305, and a T5. Now, before the car would pull smooth to redline, now, it pulls nie to about 5000 then, it just wont pull, we have replaced the exhaust and the fuel pump w/ no change. If anyone can enlighten me of this situation that would be great. Thanks in advance.

Paul

When the exhaust was replaced did you change the catylitic converter?

I dont really know what all could cause it. I know that when a cat converter goes bad it can cause a great loss of power in the higher rpms. I dont know what all problems the ignition module can cause, but I know that when mine went out the car just stoped working. I think I have heard of them causing problems with high rpms, but am not sure. I would think that it would cause a problem before 5000 though.

when was the last tune up?
plugs, wires, filters, etc.
if it has a stock cam there is not too much more power left up there. ( 5000+)

The last Tune-up was Febuary 7. It has a mild cam, but nothing radical, just barely over stock. If anyone has ideas, they will greatly appreciated. And thanks to everyone that has replyed.

Junk the cat if you don't have to pass emitions. Its like a brick wall on a revv-happy engine like that L69.

Probably needs a tuneup too.
