SuperRam: single pattern cam or dual?

I'm trying to put together my intake/heads/cam package, but matching everything is getting complicated. I'll be using a SuperRam upper, Edelbrock base, and AFR 190 heads, but finding a cam that matches the intake AND heads is hard. I know most people use the 219/219, .525/.525 cam w/ the SuperRam, but I talked to AFR and they recommend a dual pattern cam (more exhaust dur. than intake) for use w/ their heads. ARGH! So, does anyone who's using the SuperRam intake and AFR heads have any advice for what cam worked well w/ their setup? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm leaning towards a 224/230 cam w/ lift similar to the LPE cam (.525/.525). It seems like that should work well, but I think I'll have to get a custom grind to get the lift numbers I'm looking for. Plus, the dual pattern should help w/ nitrous, which I'll probably do a little later.

350,
you are on the right track in every respect. Let's see, that's a roller motor, right ?

I'll check my Comp Cams book and get back, but it seems like they offer one that is very close to your plan.

Hang tight - I'll return.

Here we go - but remember, you will need to order the associated kit that goes with this cam, or......

find out by calling AFR if their heads come with suitable springs, locks, etc. for this cam. Also, this cam calls for an improved chip (which is undoubtedly part of your plan)

Comp cam PN XR276HR is a hyd. roller with 224/230 duration at .050 and .503/.510 lift with a 112* LSA.

Good luck.

350,

Now, about those lift numbers......

You can use 1.6 roller rockers that will deliver the big lift numbers, (about .534/.545 with this cam), but for chrissake make sure you measure the valve to piston clearance - too many guys on this site puke motors because of skipping this step.

Thanks BOR. I had seen that cam, and it's definitely a good possibility that that'll be the one I go w/. I would like a little larger lift w/ 1.5 rockers, though, so that I can go really big w/ 1.6 in the future (or possibly now . I'm checking into a custom grind. I am curious (well, beyond curious, I need to know) what the maximum lift is you can get on a stock bottom end before you get piston to valve crunch. Paul Huryk (sorry if I misspelled the name) says it's as much as .600 in one of his tech articles. If so, shouldn't be any problems there, but that seems awfully large clearance for stock. AFR 190s come w/ springs that'll handle up to .550 of lift, but they offer an upgrade that will handle .600 for $175. W/ the upgrade you also get stainless valves, I was kinda disappointed that for the normal price ($1250) they don't come with them. Oh well. More research here I come.

The 219 cam is a excellent choice. I have seen many 219 AFR 190 ,SR combo's, They all scream. We have guys on the vette forum running 11.9's I have run a best of 12.5 with the 350,Sr,219 cam and edlbrook heads so close to the AFR 190's. The ramps on the 219 cam are agressive and build tons of cyclinder pressure. I dont believe there is another cam out there with that much lift for that duration. Its proven for the 350 and 383 with a Sr. now if I you were building 406-434 them I would definatlety look into a bigger stick.
Go with that and a 2800 stall and you wont be disappointed.

I think BOWTYE8 has swayed me back to the 219. Is there anyone on here using a dual pattern w/ a SuperRam? If so, let me know what you think.
