I have a 91 RS with an excellent stock motor, only 47,000 org miles on it. Just rebuilt the heads and has been very well maintained. I have some basic ignition work, chip and exhaust. I know RS's arent that impressible from the start i have driven a few. My question is why are they so restricted, the Z28's just feel alot faster. Does the LO3 have the same heads and cam? my car is pretty quick for an RS i think its running low 15's but with POSSI and some good gears i think its in the 14's.... o well just might go with the vette. any ideas?

the sworl port heads and swizzle stick cam are garbage and so is the exaust (gotta ditch it all, from the manifolds to the muffler). The whole stock setup is worth only around 170 HP. Go to the tbi board and look around. There is alot of good info on making the car go. I wouldnt walk away from it. The motor has very few miles and with a little effort on your part it can be made to have at least decent performance.

the idea behind the L03 wasn't performance, mearly price and fuel economy. restrictions are all over in the set up. if you really are running low 15's, you have one strong running L03. simple bolt on's will get you respectable numbers without alot of work though. i also recomend the tbi forum...

Four letters: C.A.F.E.

Corporate Average Fuel Economy.

Took them awhile to figure out how to do both performance and fuel economy without pricing themselves too far out of the market. They pretty much achieved that with the 4th gen LT1's and LS1's.

Seen a new Camaro or Firebird at your local dealer lately?

First, don't let anyone tell you the 305 is crap. Everyone has a 350, so do something different and build the 305. If a 305 is done right, you could get it around 320-330 hp-- thats LS1 territory! Here are 2 web pages to look at. They have given me some good tips.

The only thing you need to know about them is weight, so you know how much boat you can anchor with them.

very true.

get AT LEAST the LB9 heads, and a different intake manifold with a tbi adapter plate, and you have a nice little street engine

The cam has .350/.384 lift. The heads are crappy swirl port with 1.84/1.50 valves. With simple bolt ons you can have a high 14 second car, but unless you swap the peanut cam or swirl port heads it won't get much better than that.

The heads are 58cc, swirl-port, and 1.84" intake valve. I can't remember. The cam is the "peanut" cam and the specs are in the tech board on this site. It has the same exhaust as the LG4 engines. Small-outlet manifolds, 2.25" single exhaust from the y-pipe to the muffler. The intake manifold and throttle body are pretty much matched in flow to the heads, but the air cleaner assembly is very restrictive. The motor has some potential with some bolt ons, but will take a lot of money after that stage. Here is an example of an L03 that I worked on.

Stock 92' Camaro RS, 305 TBI L03, auto, 2.73:1 rear
E.T. 16.6@85MPH

Complete exhaust system from 86' TPI LB9
-Large-outlet manifolds
-3" y-pipe
-3" catalytic converter
-3" midpipe
-Flowmaster crossflow muffler
Open-element air filter
Timing set to 6 degrees BTDC
E.T. 15.6@90MPH

3.73:1 rear gear ratio
E.T. 15.3@91MPH

Headers, cam, heads, and intake would also make a significant difference and get the car into the low 14's. Anything more that that would require a significant amount of money and probably the elimination of the TBI system.
