Another driveline poll/question, all welcome..
I have an 89 l98 -7r4- 2.77 b/w, I want to have the best of all worlds. I know you guys are saying "RIGHT". What i want is a good strip car w/ daily driver and decent mileage. I am considering a swap to T-5. I also will upgrade to 3.27 or 3.45 gears. A t-56 is way out of range now.Basically I'm asking whether to build up my AUTO or go stick? Help me down the right path.

It all depends on how much work you want to do and how much you want to spend. i would go with the 3.45's. They are the optimal gear for all around racing/cruising. It wouldn't be worth it to change from 3.27's to 3.45's, but since you have 2.77's, you have your choice. As for the tranny, how is yours? If it still works, then I'd say keep it and put in a Trans-Go shift kit. Personally, I don't think I'd bother with a T-5. An 88' or later will handle a stock L98, but I wouldn't want to put it behind a ZZ4, or 383. Don't bother with the older ones, they aren't very strong. A T56 is the way to go, otherwise keep the auto.
Also, there is the hassle of changing over to a manual. It's a lot of work and for the same money, you could have your auto rebuilt with the shift kit and not have to lift a finger and get a warantee. Just some food for thought.

tranny is in good shape , change fluid at 100k, it was red with colors nothing in the pan, Also would go with a better T/C, and all the goodies if i kept the auto.

Ok this may seem a little crazy but hear me out if you want to make it real mean. I would stick a set of 4:10 gears in it ( I have 4:10's and at 55mph I only run 2300rpm's in OD on my 700r4) Keep your stock T5 and then when you make a T56 swap you will be set. You will see a huge difference and it won't hurt gas mileage that bad with OD. GOOD LUCK
