Temperature problems

OK...

First off: my car has never gotten anywhere near 220 degrees, even in the heat of NJ summer. Now it is cool out and my car gets up to 220 on the highway and even worse around town!!! What is going on?? I thought my coolant might be low, but it is full. What could be causing this all of the sudden? Won't this make my spark plugs no good if this keeps up?

Second of all: When I first got my car up until about 1 month ago, I would start it for the first time of any given day and it would fire and rev to 2000rpm and make its way down to its idle at 750rpm. Now, when I start it for the first time of the day it will crank for awhile and then fire and go straight to 750rpm as if it doesnt even want to run. Then when u step on the gas it hesitates and is real sluggish until it warms up which takes 1-2 minutes.

What could be causing these problems??? Any info will help.

Thanks...
J.R.

Whats up,
First off about your cooling problem, see if your AIR DAM is still intact under you car, close to your radiator. That could be you problem, there.. very common for these to break off, (Damn speed bumps). Other things i would consider is to check to see if there is anything inbetween your radiator and air conditioning condenser.
As far as the idle question, im going through something similiar.. my car will start after sitting for a while and 5 seconds after it starts the rpms go up and down, up and down, up and down.. its annoying as hell. Anyone have any insight to our idle probs?????

Thanks
Joe

As for the idle recheck the timing.
Mine was doing that and my timing was out!
Good Luck!

89IROC, it sound as if the IAC is trying to crap out on you. Remove and clean it and the chamber it goes into. Secondly, if electric fans are they coming on? Also the water pumps on sbc's do not seem to last very long.
Joe, your MAP sensor maybe going, my engine would act similarly to what you described and that is what it turned out to be.
