LO3 Potential?

without any sarcasm or "get a 350" comments...

what could one expect from a LO3 if you put a fairly mean street roller cam (better than LT1 cam) and an intake, and long tubes.

a fairly mean little beast right? what if you add port and polish to them heads....or are they not worth it....what would be a good HP replacement for CHEAP?

im hoping to rely on my 305, 6 speed and a serious suspension to keep me happy at the drag strip til i can build the 420....the right way.

thanks
Rick

From what I've seen...swap heads and expect low 13's.

Edit: Thats with a TBI to carb swap.

for heads that give you the most bang for the buck I would go with some high-lift vortec heads, they are under 700 bucks for the pair and can take something like .550" lift. Not to mention that being a genuine gm product you wont have to worry about reliability....oh yeah, you'd have to get an intake to match the bolt pattern too.

As the others are trying to say, you won't get anywhere with those LO3 swirl port heads. Get rid of them before you try any other improvements.

Ditto on the exhaust. Long tubes aren't necessary, but getting rid of all the factory exhaust is.

"GM reliability"? Vortecs are "production quality castings", but I wouldn't use that in the same sentence with "reliable". Any aftermarket casting would be better in that regard.

I was just refering to the fact that machine shops say that the factory valve job on those heads are excellent, and a good three- angle job propably wouldn't be any better. I know what your saying and I agree, I was just trying to state that you aren't buying a junk head from some off-brand manufacturer.

You may have the power to break into the 13s, but you'll need to address the traction issues of the chassis before you get there.

traction issues of the chassis?

do you mean i need to modify the suspension?
if you do then...(in my first post i said 'serious suspension' would be part of the package)

but if you mean something else...what?
a roll cage ?

ya i was gonna do the full line of spohn products as i have his torque arm and crossmember. i was thinking qa1 shocks in the rear and lakewood 90/10s.

either eibach drag springs, or iroc springs.

and i was gonna pick up some rally rims or something and get some slicks for the weekend.

we'll see.
