Recommendations for ignition wires?

Ok, here's the deal. I failed the emmisions part of the inspection pretty badly. So since I had failed similarly with a different car I figured I'd go home and check for holes burnt in my ignition wires. Sure enough there is a hole burnt nearly through one of them. What I'm looking for is some suggestions on which wires to buy because I'm looking to pick up some high performance wires. I've considered either the MSD 8.5mm wires or the Accel Extreme 9000 wires. If anyone can let me know about their experience with these wires or any other wires the have worked well it would be appreciated.

If you have plenty of patience, than build your own with MSD 8.5 bulk wire (Part #PN 34019)
You'll also need to choose the proper boots.

It won't save you a whole lot of money, but they look perfect if done right.
You might need 'There' wire crimping tool if you don't have a vise.

I did mine on a vise and they turned out absolutely gorgeous.
I tested each one before installation, and after a couple weeks of running them. (50 ohms per foot!!!)

I have so much patience I also did my '00 Impala.

i like the MSD wires, the ones you put the ends on yourself. i've used wires from accel, MSD, moroso, and stock type replacements and one things for sure you get what you pay for. i ithnk the MSD wire kits are a little better put together and their crimp tool is the best of any i've used.

I was looking in Jegs, I wanted to make sure that the wires you are talking to that you cut yourself are the 8.5mm Super Conductor Wires.

I use the Taylor Spiro Pro wires, have for a couple of decades. They are a top-of-the-line product like MSD. Get the ones with 90° ends at the plugs, that you put the distributor end on; make sure your wire looms are in good shape, replacr any that break as you do the job (NAPA has them); route them in the factory routing. I usually get 100,000 miles or more out of a set of them doing just like that.

Yea, that part # is for 25' Bulk Wire. Looks like Jegs has it for $32.99...

Your going to need boots for each end (16 in total).

Get your self some numbers for the wires. MSD Part #3414

Hell, go over to MSD's Website and arm yourself with all the parts numbers. Then hit up Jegs or Summit...

If your not up to it, I did notice something new on there website under 'Race Tailored Custom Fit MSD Spark Plug Wire Sets'...Looks like there offering more options on the custom fit wire sets. (Allready assembled)

Anybody seen or heard from 'MSDTech' latley? Is he still poping in on the board anymore?
Anywho, he worked over at MSD, and would answer alot of technical question...He was MONEY!

I have the Taylor's 8mm myself with the 90 deg boots. For some reason though, the lines are sooooo freakin huge. I have so much slack on there, but it's nothing some clamps and zip ties can't fix, hehe.

That's the main reason for doing your own, is to prevent a big pile of wires around the back of the engine. This is a Mis or Cross Fire waiting to happen or happening.

Hey 'ede' what tools do you need to do a gear swap Just kidding...
That's good your still keeping in contact with Joe...I remember some guys complaining he didn't get a 100HP from there 6A box on there stock motor. He gave a very technical explaination to why, and the guys were like 'what ever, it's a POS', or something along those lines. It basicly turned into a slam fest, and I thought he mensioned, 'I won't return, bye'.
Not to pat myself on the back, but I replied that most of us thinks he was an asset to board - yada-yada...

I just did my own wires yesterday and used Taylor Spiro Pro, had to have yellow wires. It is not difficult work just very time consuming, you kinda need to be be a perfectionist to do it. I spent about 3 hours doing mine which included routing the wire through custom looms and then cuting and making boots for the distributor as the spark plug boots were already done, 90 degree bends. I used a crimper that is originally used to crimp coax cable for TV, it worked perfectly!

FYI: I did mine outside the car while the new motor was on a stand, I imagine it to be a big PITA if the motor is in the car.

You can lay a MSD wire on the headers without burning them. I found this out by accident. I opened the hood one day and had 4 wires right up against the headers. Not a mark on them.
