just get a gas can or jug, run a line from the mechianical fuel pump to the tank and then fire it up

No issues, make sure the flexplate/flywheel is attached.

DO NOT POUR FUEL INTO THE CARB to keep it running, one backfire and you'll look like Alfalfa (older crowd will know what I mean).

Use a fuel pump with a remote fuel source. You can safely run the engine for a few miutes without water, anymore than 5 minutes or so, you'd best be thinking on how to plumb a radiator to it (don't forget a cooling fan).

ONe more thing, open headers are okay, but if you only have exhaust manifolds, then run at least a few feet of tubing off of them to keep the valves intact.

You should really get a proper engine test stand for doing something like this. Wouldn't be safe to do it on a regular engine stand.

easier to start it on the back of a truck or on wood blocks. the engine stand would flex a bit too much.

chalk it up on blocks of wood near the ground. put a water hose the water pump and poke a hole in apiece of tape for the water output.

for fuel if you have an electric fuel pump in the car then just run the fuel line from the car to the motor. otherwise a line from a bucket to the carb would work if you get the fuel pump near it or a mechanical.

spark im sure you know.

and thats it. fuel air spark water. should be fine just make sure its rigid and doesnt move. headers like somone mentioned are fine.

I used to do it all the time.

i'd buy a cheap 12v eletric FP, and i'd use a stand that couldn't tip over, not an engine stand.

now that u guys metnion it i really would mind if my engine fell over while running on a stand...

i have the pallet it was shipped on still (with the wood blocks on it to support it)..i think this would be better...but i saw that the flywheel should be attached...i cant get the flywheel on on the stand or on the pallet...does it have to be on?...

my block isnt drilled for a mechanical fuel pump...
im using my tpi intank pump with a 3 port regulater...

so just drop the pallent in front of the car and run a piece of fuel line to the carb?

for spark, i have to wire in all my msd stuff so i guess now would be a good time huh? lol

Each of my motors has been run on a stand before in stall. As said above, any issues are much easier to solve. I run mine for about an hour total before installing them. A four wheel stand is the better choice, but the low stands on casters work well also. If you not a moron and do not rev the **** out of it, falling over is not a concern. Basically, you are doing a fast idle break in and then setting an idle, while checking for leaks and noises. I have a small fuel cell, holley blue pump and a pair of old headers with mufflers to run with it.
