Why's my stock L98 getting 8 MPG???

It's only got 49k. The valve seals need to be replaced and I think an injector is clogged b/c I hear a clicking noise from the engine. You figure it out???

When was it tuned up (plugs, wires, cap, rotor) last? Have you changed the 02 sensor? It wouldn't hurt to set the IAC and tps just to be safe.

good luck,

how are you checking the gas mileage? you can NOT use your gauge! my '86 IROC is atLEAST 1/3 of a tank off of what the gauge is reading. the only way to guaranteed get the correct mileage is to fill your tank up so full all it does is click.. write down your milage and drive it for a whole tank, fill it up again until it clicks.. write down your mileage.. then the Calc is:

new mileage - old mileage == miles driven
gallons filled

then divide miles driven by gallons added and that's your mpg

ie. 200 miles driven divided by 10 gallons == 20 mpg

i would also like to say as well that the valve seals being bad isn't bad at all! weird? not really, the oil provides a little bit of lubrication when you start your engine, saves wear & tear a bit.. just tell your friends it's called Oil-Tec and my motor clicks too, i have no idea what it is but I've heard the fuel injectors can do that.. i'm sure everything is fine, at 49k the motor should still be in great shape
