Broken cruise control; how to fix?

The cruse control in my '89 IROC has not been functional since I bought the car a little over a year ago. Judging from what I've seen here on the boards, it seems like the cruise control is a common thing to go out on these cars. But it seems like most people just toss them rather than fix them once they break.

What are some of the common failures on the cruise control systems on these cars, and what things should I check to ensure proper functionality?

Thanks

Take a stop over at iroc-zpost.com and check out their tech boards.

A member by the name 'SM' recently repaired his cruise control and I'm sure he'd be able to assist you very well.

I agree with ede.

Our Cruise Control has been out for almost a year now on our 91. I checked vacum lines and everything that deals with the cruise control.
Today our car died (another topic) and while trying to get it to crank, I looked at the turn signal and found some wires coming out of the steering column. Two of the four were seperated and had been pinched by the turn signal lever. So everytime you signal a left turn, you are pinching these wires. And these are something like 24awg wires. Very tiny wires that you could possibly pinch apart with your finger nails.
Yet another great wire design by the top GM engineers on the F-body.
