can get it to start but won't stay running help

Have an 85 iroc tpi with a 305. Swapped in a 406 with a superram,24lb injectors, new coil, wires ,ect. I can only get it to run if i spray starting fluid in the tb. It has fuel pres. It only runs for a few seconds unless i spray the starting fluid. I replace the stock computer but still nothing. It sounds like a fuel prob but fuel pump works. Injectors are not leaking. Someone please help! thanks, Mike

I would have to agree with Tom it sounds as if the timing is off. Most likely the distributor, not the cam because you stated it would run a little bit. This is a common mistake just check the rotor to see if it is pointing at #1 position on the cap with the engine at top dead center #1 firing.
You can also "pre-time" the base timing by disconecting #1 spark plug and put an old plug in the boot and hold it to ground. now with the ignition on engine off turn the distributor quickly and watch for the spark. You need to try and stop the distributor right when you see the plug fire and you should be set.
