What happens if an injector is going bad and u are running nos?

I have a rough idle, and I've changed my plugs, cap and wires. The miss is still there and I am ordering a 100HP shot of nitrous tomorrow. It runs fine at anything other than idle. If I put the shot on and one of my injectors is ****ing up, will it cause detonation? How can I test my injectors?

I'm no expert on NOS, but I do know that having an insufficient fuel supply is a great way to break expensive parts on NOS. If one of your injectors is bad it will run that cylinder lean, which isn't good under normal circumstances. When using nitrous, it becomes vital that you have enough fuel, otherwise you can run extremely lean and burn valves, pistons, and generally do lots of expensive stuff to the inside of your engine...

not a big deal. if an injector quits working with the nitrous on it'll just vent it's self through the piston.

zippy, you're a moron. If an injector fails, as in stops firing, he will destroy that piston/exhaust valve very quickly with juice. If your engine is in anything less than perfect tune, do not even think about spraying it.

In zippy's defense I think that was written with a heavy dose of sarcasm... "it'll just vent it's self through the piston" (by putting a hole in it)

don't even think about it until you get it fixed, because they're right, it's suicide for your motor

Hey ! Was Zippy one of the seven dwarfs ?

Nah!

But you could be right about the piston ventilating itself in the presence of pure nitrous and no gas.

Of course, I would expect from the symptoms described, that even if the problem IS an injector that is lazy at idle, the builder will not have a problem for long.

If said injector problem is caused by varnish/crud buildup, it should be blasted clean the first time the fuel enrichment circuit kicks in on the modified system. And, I would expect the builder to "cold test" both the fuel and nitrous loops.

Oh, by the way, if you purge your nitrous into the cylinders, make sure you disconnect the coil and spin the motor over a few times. This will prevent your SBC from turning into a very expensive hand grenade when you fire it up with a load of spray sitting in the cylinders.

Also, I'd recommend a dual relay setup that ONLY arms and enables the spray when two conditions are met:
1)The microswitch which you've positioned at the end of your throttle linkage is activated, and.....
2) Le motoeer is spinning 2500+ RPM.

And uh, lastly, like the other guys said, play it safe and diagnose/repair the miss at idle BEFORE playing with the HE. (That's high-explosive for all you whippersnappers).

Good luck.

i'm impressed. i'm a moron for pointing out that the piston would vent itself. kinda takes a moron to not realize pistons don't vent themselve without a hole in it. and i'm the 6'4 dwarf playing with snow white. yes i have a good sense of humor.
