B&M Megashifter

I just installed the console megashifter for my 86 305 TPI Camaro. I followed the instructions and everything went smoothly. By the way it looks aweswome. But what concerns me is that to shift the gears it takes quite a bit of force to move the shifter. Is this normal or did I do something wrong? When I attached the cable to the selector lever on the trans I made sure the swivel pin could freely move in and out on each gear selection, so what gives?

Thanx for any help,
Jason

jason i have a 1988 firebird formula 350. i puthe console mega shifter in my car also at first it will seem a little stiff. i dont knwo if it actually loosens up or u just get used to the way it feels compared to the sloppy stock shifter. i had to do a little more work to mine considering the console in my car is different than that of its brothers. so anyways to answer your question it seems to loosen up. hope this helps.

Jason, what, are you babying that thing? Worried it'll break?? It's not plastic, don't worry. Put some muscle behind it!!!

Seriously tho, I find that unless I give my Megashifter a bit of a "hit" or "yank" with my hand, instead of a "push" or "pull", it won't move. Mine worked that way when I bought it, it works that way now, and yes I lubricate the ratchet mechanism every year.

In fact when I first met my girlfriend, she asked about the shifter.. she couldn't budge it. When she finally did, she exclaimed "ow!" Talk about a great ego boost... "Yeah, [scratch self], I'm a guy, [spit on ground] this is my hot rod."

You get used to the stiff movement. It takes quite a bit of effort to move the shifter without the cable hooked up.

Hey, I know this is a bit off topic, but I've just gosta ask...TransAm86, where did you get those seats? I'm looking for that same type set-up only with black rather than red on the outside part of the seats? Thanks alot...

Mark,

These are the stock TA seats. They usually come with the white exterior/red and gray interior scheme in the 1986 TA's

There is a guy on this board, with a burgundy IROC, who did the swap from a TA that had the black and gray seats. He later changed them to black 1995 camaro leather. I'll try to locate him for you.

Those are normally Trans Am seats?!?!

No wonder! My car had those seats originally, and I could not find them in a junkyard car ANYWHERE. I found one or two, but they were as shredded as mine were. Finally I found them in a Pontiac 6000 SE Station Wagon, of all cars- and they were in mint condition. (Colors= dark gray outer, light gray center.)

Thanks for clearing up the mystery! I guess whoever bought my car new was a big spender, eh?
