145 speedo gear with 85mph speedo?>>
Im probably stupid for asking but what if i get some white guages are for a 145 speedo and just change my speedo gear. The white faces will cover the whole thing anyways or do i need to just buy the whole speedo and gear? Thanks

ede, what im trying to say is: I have an 85mph speedo but i want a 145mph speedo. If i put white guage faces that are made for a 145mph speedo over my existing ones can i just change the speedo gear for a 145mph unit? Sorry for the confusion

I suppose it MIGHT be possible, as long as your ECM doesn't expect to have a meaningful signal from the VSS. You might not be able to get the right ratio out of the available gears though.

The gear from the 145 speedo has nothing to do with it. All speedos are calibrated to run at the same cable revolutions per mile.
What I think you are trying to do is speed it up by a factor of 1.6 so you can use the KPH scale as MPH. That will make your odometer a kilometer unit , but you'll be reading kilometers per hour as miles per hour.
But, as Apeiron says, you'll mess up your VSS, unless you can figure out a way to burn a chip to compensate for that.

Reading what you said again, no that's not what you're trying to do. To restate, speedometers are calibrated to work at a set cable revolutions per mile. Just changing the face won't change that, and it won't give you accurate readings at any time.
Either speed up the cable like I said in the above post, or get a 145 mph calibrated unit.

Ok, since nobody apparently understood what you were asking, I'll try. The only difference between the 85 speedo and the 145 is the gearing between the cable and the needle, so if you did change it, it should work. BUT, good luck finding just the gears, and IF you can get it apart, it will probably never go back together again.

I dont think it will work because when you install the white face guages you must line up the original numbers with the numbers on the white faces to allow light to come through when driving at night. If you only drive in the daytime I suppose it would work.
