Heads and Cam setup

I am looking at getting the S/R Torquer 305 heads and the CompCam XE262(218/224, .464/.470, 114LSA). Would this setup work with the stock chip? What kind of gains could I get from this setup? I was also considering changing to 1.6 rockers with this. Good idea? I don't want a nasty lope either. I want to keep a nice idle. It doesn't have to be as good as stock but I don't want it to sound like a racecar either. Do you guys have a better suggestion for heads and cam? I can get the whole setup for about $750.

I doubt that the XE262 is the best cam choice for a 305 TPI. You might even go slower than stock with that.

Look at these:

Especially the 260AH-14 (12-402-4)

1.6 rockers would help quite a bit.

That cam doesn't seem like it would be worth the trouble of changing. It's not much different than what I have now. I will probably be switching to the LT1 intake also.

The cam I have now it the stock cam. (114.5 LSA, 202/206, .403/.415). I called comp and they are recommending the XR264HR(112LSA, 212/218, .488/.495). The duration still seems a little mild on the cam. The lift is good. If I used the 1.6 rockers that would put me at .521/.528 on the lift. I think the max lift on the torquer 305 heads is .560.

I'm running that cam in my 305 right now, with 1.6 rockers. Runs pretty hard. That's a good choice.

Not a flat-tappet though, which the XE262 is.... yet another minor little detail.....

Okay, I called Comp again and this guy gave me a different cam. What do you guys think?

12-262-14 (114 LSA, 218/224, .464/.470) He said not to use the 1.6 rockers. I have a set of 1.5 roller tips. He said they would give me a better gain than the 1.6 rocker. Anyone use this cam with any success on a 305? What would be the best intake to use with this setup. Would the 110 LSA be better or worse?

110 lsa is for carbed cars. 114 will work well with your tpi. It creates a better vacuum signal for the fi system.

Would it be better to switch to the LT1 intake or just port and polish the plenum, runners, and intake?
