Relocate O2 Sensor?

Cause my cat is gutted my O2 sensor isnt heating up enough. If i relocate it up closer to the heads in one of the header pipes will that work? Right now its in the stock location on a pair of Edlebrock TES headers. Any other suggestions? It wont idle right unless the O2 sensor is heated properly and its getting annoying having it die at lights. Thanks for the help.

They do make 3 wire O2 sensors that have a heating element. Just have to find one that will work with your application.

Illinois has tough emmisions, at least they did when I lived in Chicago.

Get off the gutted cat power trip and put a high flow cat on it. I gutted my cat when it got clogged, and the car smelled aweful. I put a random cat on and the car runs much smoother. Not to mention it would not pass w/o it. It also ran .2 better in the 1/4.

86Z "86 Camaro with 88 305 LB9 converted to CARB" that might be why you dont have a problem
Ill check out that three wire one. Thanks

BTW i didnt gut the cat and i can pass emissions without it. I love how it sounds without the cat but eventually im going to a true dual 3inch with h-pipe, random tech cats, borla XR-1 race mufflers. (i have a very secert project in the works, can you say twin turbos???) so ill do the exhaust once i get my projet going. Thanks again

I got a 3 wire o2 sensor for a 92 ZR1 corvette. It's a widely used sensor because my local dealer (who's probably never even seen a CATALOG of a ZR1) had a bunch in stock. The two white wires to to +12 and ground, and the other wire connects to the current pink wire.

I know, I shouldn't use this word and the moderators will probably have it on the list of words that will be scrambled but I have been using a "FORD" heated O2 sensor for 3 years now with no problems. It will go right into the Edlebrock headers or you can try a chevy heated O2 which is what I would do if I had to replace it again.

BB,

We'll allow you to use the "F"-word on the board, but only if it is used in a derogatory and degrading context. That "Ford" sensor is probably really a Bosch sensor. I'm certain the GM sensor is a Bosch, so it would explain the compatibility (except for the connector perhaps). A chunk of polarized zirconia will prduce the same condutivity regardless of what brand engine it is hung on, so the big hangup is the bung thred size and electrical connection.

A gutted cat will have no effect on the O2 sensor, only emissions output through the tailpipe.

The O2 sensor is located before the cat. With both my TES and my original exhaust manifolds. Having the O2 sensor closer to the head definitely will make it operate quicker and produce better readings, but the gutted cat has no bearing on it (unless it is clogged and retaining heat, at which point you have a different problem).
