Need help on 3800 motor

I have a 92' bonneville that was missing on a cylinder(see earlier post) and i also have a 92' buick regal with a blown 3.8 in it as a parts car. The bonneville needed a coil pack and the regal, altho the motor looked exactly the same, had a different coil pack
it had one with all the plug wire terminals in a straight line, the bonneville had 3 on each side style one. I put the one off of the regal on the bonneville, and it seems to run fine, but my question is 1)will it hurt anything switching kinds of coil packs and 2)what is the difference?
Any help is appreciated.

In order for you to have done that, you also swapped the ignition module also, becuase the different coils require a different module. They operate basicly the same, however the Type II (delco) are more efficient and powerfull then the Type I (magnavox) that you just put on. Will it hurt? Not really, since they operate about the same, it would be like replacing an LS1 with an LT1 (except the horsepower). In otherwords, you downgraded your ignition system to a lesser style, but should function about the same. (just remember what car the parts came off of when you go to buy new ones)
