Ticking noise from motor
My 305 TPI makes this ticking noise all the time regardless of engine temp. It doesn't get any louder or quieter, it's just there. The noise has been there ever since I bought the car in Oct 99. I always thought it was the distributor, but earlier posts concerning rod knock and lifter noise on this board have me a bit worried. I thought it was the distributor or valve train, because thats what all my other cars, albiet 4 bangers, did. The noise from the distributor didn't cahnge with temp but the noise from the valve train went away as the engine warmed up.
Any ideas or suggestions anyone? Could probably be the injectors I think. The ticking sounds real harmless, no problems with engine operation.

It is a bomb.
No, the TPI injectors WILL make a ticking sound. It does sound similar to a loose rocker (weak lifter), but it is definitely at the top of the engine and does not get louder as your rev it (like a rocker/lifter will). Also, you will hear it from both sides of the engine, not just one side or one side being distinguishably louder.
A lifter also sounds like it is coming from the "heart of the engine", not the top.
Hope this helps.

Injector ticks are fairly loud. Sounds like injectors to me too. Not loud, just ticking ... i believe the stock injectors are normally loud.

Yeah the ticking seems to come from the top of the motor and from both sides.
