Accidently shifted into drive at 5500 RPMS

I was racing and thought I was in D instead of OD, well I shifted into neutral and then back into drive tached out. Now my shifts are not as firm, and it shifts funny into 3rd gear.Could I have ****ed something up? I have a shift kit so it should be shifting hard, now it shifts soft as hell, and my shift points are sooner than usual. I was doing about 70 MPH.

Now -there's- a reason to get a B&M megashifter!

Your TV cable might've slipped out of alignment. (Don't know how you would've caused it at that moment, but...) The TV cable adjustment usually slips too far forward, which will give you an earlier and softer shift. The reset procedures should be in the shift kit's instructions.

I will try to adjust it and see if that helps, thanks for the input.

it is possible you may have messed something up. did you let up before you put it back into gear? might be good time for megashifter or just get smart and put in a governer to make the trans shift when you want it to in drive. just because you can shift it manually doesn't mean you have to. not like you have a drag car.

I agree with zippy, but personally i'd get me a different shifter and then have a tranny specialist take a look at it. I live in Chester, Illinois and there is a guy that will test and adjust your tranny for free, but if anything requires a wrench being picked up and something taken off its some money. So if it doesn't work after the adjustment take it to someone who deals with the stuff. Thats just what i'd do.

I myself have the manual shift stuff, where if i'm doing 120 in OD and shift into 1st, mines in 1st gear...but my tranny is built up with transgo and borgwarner **** so it ain't gonna hurt nothing. no good for the engine but well, i don't plan on manually shifting either, OD is good enough for me...

why do people drive their slushbox like a stick then wonder why its failing? if you wanna manually shift, get a manual tranny, if you burn up a clutch at least you dont have to rebuild the entire tranny...

it's not like it's going to kill it to be manually shifted, but there is no point in it for a low rpm engine like that. people that have true race cars with auto's use manual valve bodies becuase there is no governer to shift at over 7k. but for something that shifts in the 5k range, there is no reason to not set it up to shift at your chosen rpm other than an excuse if you lost that you didn't manually shift it.
