Fuel/several cranks till it fires

1988 5.7 ...170K miles
Takes several cranks - like 5+ - when sits over night to fire up.
Can hear fuel pump is powrd up in "on" position - relay has been changed; fuel pump replaced about 3 years ago.
Any advice would be helpful

Change fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, and wires. If that still doesn't cure the problem, check your timing, the TPS, and the IAC.

before you spend money, check your timing.

heh, its funny, but its like the most common thing ive been saying on the board..

overheating? check your timing
hard starting? check your timing
detonation? check your timing..

and then ive been gettin PMs saying thanks... it was my timing.

not saying that it is in your case, but its quick and easy to check...

shouldn't it be more like

I get pinging noise in my motor any idea why?

A) check the timeing befor you blow a hole in your piston

later reply) to late it already happen... i didn't know timeing could do that

haveing your car out of timeing can make you lose power or get more power but somethings more is a bad thing.
