Is there ANY difference at all between the Camaro 350 TPI motor and the Trans Am 350 TPI motor? Were they the exact same from year to year? Is the Trans Am 8th VIN digit for the L98 also "8" like in the Camaros? Thanks.

I am not sure about the whole VIN thing. However, everything I have read says the L98 is the exact same from the T/A to the Z-28's. The T/A's have less power because of a more restrictive air intake.

L98 Firebirds also have an 8 in the 8th digit of the VIN.

The only differences is the intake (it uses a cannister that draws cool air from passenger fender on later models) and the placement of the accessories (a/c, p/s, alt, air pump).

If you cut the sides of the air intake cannister and build a box to enclose the cannister to draw only cool air from the passenger fender, you'll overcome any hp loss.

The "restriction" of the intake track tube from the cannister to the TB flows more air than the TB, so it is not the restriction: only the cannister itself. Cutting the sides out will make the cannister flow more.

As far as the blocks go, they are identical. The pontiac engine family was discontinued in 1981( well, im pretty sure it was 81).
