Fuel pump doesn't turn on, need help quick!

The car is an 89 Firebird Formula 305 TPI with a T-5 tranny. The car will turn over, but I don't think it's getting any fuel. There's spark, but I can't hear the fuel pump turn on. We dropped the tank, replaced the pump, but still no-go.

Suggestions? Someone said check the relay, where is that? How do we check it?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

supply a 12 volt positive charge to the "G" terminal on the ALDL and that should kick the pump on. Make sure your key is on if you supply a 12v from the fuse panel. If your pump comes on, you've probably got a bad relay. Let us know what goes on.

Thanks so much! If we would have tried that first, we probably could have avoided the work of dropping the tank and the expense of a new pump

So, the pump does come on if we supply a 12 volt charge to the G terminal in the ALDL. So, you said it's probably the relay right? Where is the relay located in the engine bay?

on the firewall next to the brake booster. the inner one should be the fuel pump.

oh, and call me old fashion... but i just jumper the relay plug as if the relay was "on" to test for voltage in the rear...

Under the dash just above your feet on the drivers side is your ALDL. It looks like a connection for a computer or something of that sort. The hole on the lower-left is the G terminal. We just ran a bit of wire off of one of the fuses in the fuse box (also under the drivers side above your feet) to that terminal, and turned the key to the "on" position in the ignition, and we could hear the pump turn on.

It sounds like the fuel pump fuse up by the battery has blown then. It is a 20amp sealed fuse up by the battery, I beleive on a 89 Firebird it is on the rad support by the battery. This is what it looks like.

No it wouldn't. So there has to be a bad wire somewhere, like around the relay or from the fuse mentioned itself. Check for voltage at the realy and the fuse. Just becasue it looks good doesn't mean it is.

Well we fixed mine. BlacKnight and I found my fuse, thanks to you guys here. Who'da thought they'd put a fuse infront of the batter?

Anyway, that was the problem all along, even though we replaced the pump and the relay first, because we couldn't find the fuse. hehe.

So thanks. Tons of help.
