Car starts right up after gas pedal is pushed once to the floor. Why??

I was having probs with my '89 GTA starting right up. I would usually have to crank it a couple times for the first start-up each day (once warmed up it would srart immediately). The last couple of days before trying to start the car I've been pushing the accelerator once to the floor then releasing it, and it now seems to start quicker. The car is obviously fuel-injected. Is it okay to this with an FI car? Is it the fuel relay switch that needs to be replaced? Thanks in advance for any advice.

Were you turning the key from "off" to "crank" right away? If you were, the fuel pump isn't getting a chance to prime. Next time, turn the key from "off" to "on"- that's where your dash lights come on, the position right before "crank". Wait 2-3 seconds until the fuel pump stops humming. Then crank the motor.

Unless of course you were doing this already

sure its FI? if so.. if i remember corectly, holding the throttle to WOT durning cranking will clear a "flood" situation.. starting the car like this may be tricking the ecm into giving it less fuel to keep from flooding on startup.. when was your last tuneup? plugs?

Scoob, he said he'd push the pedal down, then release it, then crank... but you are right as to what would happen if he held the pedal down.
