Did you also just switch over to an open-element air filter directly off of the throttle body? (Only pertains if you're using a Speed Density setup obviously).

Other than that, it would help if you tell us a bit more about your car/setup. You are sure it's an air sucking sound you hear and not a cavitating water pump or possibly the alternator or a belt that's mis-adjusted?

Is it a high pitch sound or a low continuous whoosh?

At what RPM ranges is it more or less noticeable, and does it change frequency at different RPM's?

Dunno much about this, but it could be a vacuum leak according to the sound.

First check what ZZ5 says, if it turns out just to be an air hissing sound, thats not the air intake, do one of 2 things. The cheap, no so elegant way of doing this is to cut off a small piece of garden hose. Hold one end to your ear, and the other end use to probe around the engine. Find where the hissing is loudest. The visually inspect that area, the problem should be obvious. The more elegant way would be to buy a stethascope and do the same thing. This should help you locate the problem.
Good luck

If you were from Texas, you could blame it on NAFTA.

Seriously, though, really sounds like something was left off when you put it back together.

I would say check for something disconnected, but on the 350 (mine is TBI) It turned out to be some bad injectors. I don't know a thing about TPI though...

Good luck,
Mike

The exact same thing happened to me when i put back together my 305 TPI. As far as I could tell it was not a vaccum leak, and there was no power decrease. I would love to know.

I also have a high pitched whistle noise that I have found is coming from the plenum and TB. I believe that it is probably from the porting of the plenum and the larger 52 TB. Also, since I ported the plenum I might have a UNsmooth surface that might need to be smoothed down near the TB/Plenum opening. Or it could be because I am getting so much more air flow into the plenum.
