Does anyone know what the IAC is?

I posted a message on "Rough running TPI Engine" and someone mentioned that it might be the IAC. Can someone tell me what that is?
By the way I bought a pickup coil and will be installing to try and remedy the problem.
Thanks for any input.

IAC - Idle Air Control.
it is located directly under your throttle body. there is an article on the tech page on how to reset it. here ya go https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tpimod2.shtml

IAC = idle air control valve. It's located on the lower left side of your throttle body, looking from in front of the engine - on the passenger side. It has a 4-wire connector on it...

The thing that lets the air into your TPI with the butterfly openings is called a "Throttle Body" and they are talking about the IAC being located on the TB of your TPI system. The only way to clean it is take the TB off and spray it with a sensor safe cleaner or remove the IAC valve which I wouldn't recommend until you do some basic things first.

Rough running TPI can be just in need of a good tune up (i.e. plugs, wires, new cap and rotor all for under $40-50). Try this before you do anything and it wouldn't hurt to do it anyways. Maybe run some Fuel injection cleaner through a couple of tank fulls also.

spray what kind of cleaner where? is carb/throttle body cleaner good? does that go into the little triangle between the throttle body blades? I'm pretty sure my IAC is acting up, so. thanks

check that tech link out also because the best way to clean it is pull the thing out or pull the TB off, but you could try spraying it into that passage you mentioned. If you crank the car right afterwards it may stumble or act wierd until all the cleaner evaporates.

Any fuel injection cleaner should be fine or an electric parts cleaner. DO NOT USE carb/choke cleaner on any fuel injected motor! It is not safe to the sensors and could or will mess them up. Look on the shelf at the auto parts store and you should see a can that says fuel injection cleaner on it or something similar.

CRC makes some "throttle body cleaner for fuel injected engines" spray. My car kept shutting off in certain idle situations, so I took some of that cleaner (after some tips from Vader) and wiped the TB on my 305TPI. The hardest part might be taking the stupid intake-snorkel, which is nice and toasty after the recommended "drive to normal engine temp before cleaning" instructions on the can. The engine coughs a bit cuz' of the fluid, but just clean the butterfly plates and the areas around them as well. Reconnect and drive around town... should fix most idle problems. If not, go for the IAC valve (check/replace it)
