lots of carbon on valve=bad guides??

Hey guys, before I tear my engine apart I just want to make sure that it is what I think it is. Well When I built the motor I didn't have the money to get the valve guides redone so I just cleaned them up and put new seals on them. Now 3500 miles later I get white smoke at high rpm when I shift and sometimes when its idleing it will let white smoke out. Now when I had the heads apart the valves had hard carbon caked on them real bad, about 1/2in thick in some spots, really restrictin flow. Now I just scraped it off and cleaned them and assembled the heads again. Now carbon on the valves means bad valve guides correct??Or should I look elsewhere for a problem? Also It seems to be getting worse and worse. You don't think this coudl be my rings right?? Thanks for any input that you have...

If its shooting white smoke, forget about the rings. Its burning coolant. Its probably a head gasket leak. Unless this is just a cold engine smoking, in that case, its prolly just condesation.

How coudl it possibly be a blown head gasket? The engine runs awsome and has so much power, it just smokes a little. Also I burn oil cause i am always low when i check it. And another reason to think its my valve guides is the massive amounts of carbon on the valve and thats a tell tale sign to bad guides..My dad said if i blew a head gasket he thinks i would smoke all the time not just at idle and at rpm when i shift. What are the signs of a blown head gasket? does the engine still run fine?
