'91 305 into '82 olds delta 88?
I recently wrecked my '91 T/A... I was wondering, would the 305 in it fit in my dad's 1982 Oldsmobile delta 88? Obviously, I'll have to carb it, and whatnot... But the 307 in it now is sooooooooooo weak... May as well let part of my car live on in it!
My main concerns are:
(a) will it mount in there right, and
(b) will the tranny (i dunno what tranny he has... it's automatic..
) bolt onto it right?
Thanks,

I don't know the answer to the first question (whether it will fit or not), I do know that the 307 is an olds small block and not a sbc like the 305. But I can almost guarantee you have the 200-4R Transmission in the Delta 88, (I own an 84 Delta 88 and that's what I have and those cars didn't change much from 81-85). I think I've seen people on this board talk about 305's bolting up to the 200-4R, should work. Good Luck!

Yes it will drop right in. You will need motor mounts. You will have to change the trans, as the Olds motor has a different bolt pattern from the Chevy motor. Exhaust will need some rework. You'll have to do something about the battery tray since the starter is on the left on the 307 but the right on the 305.
Much of what you need can be obtained from a Caprice of the same age as the Olds. The chassis of the Caprice and Delta 88 are essentially identical. You should even be able to come up with an entire Caprice engine at the boneyard fairly easily, which will get you the right intake, carb, brackets, etc. which you will need all of. You may need the Caprice trans crossmember and driveshaft too, as the Olds probably has a 200 which is a different length from the 700 that a Chevy motor would use in that chassis.
All in all, it will be alot of turning bolts, but you should come out with a much better car.

I might suggest that dumping the 307 for a carbureted 305 will not gain you very much. The Olds 307 had essentially the same HP numbers as a carb'd 305, and slightly more torque. Keep in mind that you're trying to move a car that weighs over 4000lbs dry with this tiny little engine.
It's always been my position that putting the 305 and Olds 307s in full-size chassis' was a mistake on GM's part.
Dump both engines and go with a 350 as RB83L69 is suggesting.
