A/C & Heater Gurus please help troubleshoot and answer questions.
Ok, got my car a few weeks ago, and its been PERFECT since, except one thing, I lost my A/C, Heat/ Fan, basically my HVAC controls do nothing.
I talked to the guy I got it from (I am not bitter at all, just talked to him to try and troubleshoot) he said it might have cracked the compressor again. He just had it replaced.
If it is a cracked compressor would it take everything else out like that with it. Will it be fixed if I put in a new compressor?
I have a used one, probobly has R12 in it I guess. but the car has been converted to R134. What would I have to do there?

just so i understand better the fan works but not the selector switch? if so it's ran by vacuum and most if not all i've seem develope a leak in the diaphram part of the selector switch. pull the panel off and take a look it's where all the lines go to, or come from. you can connect some very low preasure air, like 5 psi, to the fitting under the hood and soap the system for leaks. you can pull a vacuum on it with a hand pump to see if it has a leak.

Remove the control head from the dash. Observe the wires on the rear. You will find, in the harness that goes to the "mode" switch, one single brown wire. That wire is the one that brings power from the ignition switch to the entire thing. Follow it back into the dash, where it plugs into the main car harness; about a foot or so in, you'll come across a connector of incredibly stupid design. It will be found to be burnt to ashes. Cut both ends of what's left of it off of the wire, and replace it with a BIG, THICK slide terminal or something; remember, there's ALOT of current in that wire, so use heavy-duty connectors.
There is another of the same type under the hood, that feed battery to the fan high-speed relay. To find that one, locate the blower motor, and fooolw its purple wire back to the relay; there will be a large red wire also at the relay; follow that red wire back over the top of the evaporator housing, and you will come to the connector in question along the firewall just about above the right valve cover. It will probably be burnt to ash as well.

This is an electrical problem, like the 4 cars in my immediate family that I have had to repair it in, including 2 thirdgens (one of them being mine), a Monte Carlo, and some FWD car.

ok dont attack me to bad, I checked all that and they were PERFECT, then I realized 'Oh Sh**, I never checked the fuse!"
Sure enough that was it, BUT, the A/C Still dont work, I didnt notice green stuff (R134 Im guessing) on the back of the compressor, got curious so I pushed the schraeder valve on the condensor (I'm guessing, I dont know anything about A/C) and it bubbled a lil but and that was it.
The compressor is a remanufactured compressor, the owner I bought it from just put it in a month ago, put another one from the same place in 2 months before that, do you think this one is Sh** too?
Im not gonna have his warranty replace it for it to break again. I have a spare one (factory) but its from a car that wasnt converted to 134, will it work.

the compressor you have will work just fine, just dont forget to charge the system with oil after filling it with the 134a, green stuff on the back of the compressor? hmm got me on that one.. maybe some kidna dye added to the refridgerant so find a leak.

when you switch on the a/c, do you notice the sound of the compressor coming on? did you check all the wiring, even the wiring going to the compressor itself?
i know when we sell compressors at work, the invoice prints up an automatic note saying that the dryer (accumulator) and something else must be changed as well to maintain the warranty of the compressor.
possibility they didn't get everything flushed out of the system when they switched to the new refrigerant and it's eating the compressors as an end result?
the green fluid is most likely a dye used to check the system for leaks, we sell a lot of this product to our repair-shops that we deal with.
best of luck with everything
