how come i have no power?
ok, i just swapped out my 305 lg4 for a gm 350. my sig has the mods. it passed smog last week so i got all excited. i have been away at college for the month while my dad has been breakin' the car in. well, i came this weekend to take it back to school. i drove it this afternoon for the first time since it has had its new engine. i put the pedal to the ground and felt almost no response. it stutters terribly at anything above 3000 rpms. whats wrong here? the smog tech said i have a code 24, what is that and is that the effect? is this is a tranny shifting problem? a linkeage problem? i need some serious help. it almosts seems slower than my old lg4. it only has 150 miles on the new engine. i have no times at the 1/4 mile to compare but i can tell it feels sluggish.
thanks
daniel

Code 24 should be the vehicle speed sensor (VSS). It supplies the ECM with a toggling 12v signal. This could keep the converter from applying and affect your idle speed when you decelerate. Basically the car's computer doesn't know how fast it's going.

i dont know what ccc or dist is?
i have a quadrajet 4 bbl carb. it hasnt been rebuilt but i did take it apart and use fresh gaskets. could the carb be the problem?
its really annoying to not have any power just a studder in that range in rpms.

ccc stands for computer controled carb, and the dist, are they orignal, if I am not mistaken you change to a none computer controled carb or dist.
yeah, the carb is original, i just replaced the gaskets on it. the ECm is a different story. i had to replace it cuz it took a shi@ very soon after start-up. the TECh did all the expensive work and testing. i am re-using the stock prom in some remanufactured ECM. any ideas????

The stock prom for the car? or the stock prom for the computer? I though you had a jet chip? Where is your timing? Is the power ****ty after the new gaskets? Did you retune the carb? What exasut are you runnig? did you do a complete tune up when replacing the motor?
Trending Topics
the prom is stock for the car, the ECM didnt come with one, the TECH said it would cost me another 70 bucks for another one just like mine, so i reused it. i had a jet chip, i put 20 miles on it, then i took it in to see what the troubles were. thats when the TECH diagnosed that my computer was bad(it wasnt grounding its actuators) so the SES light would never go off and he couldnt get any codes. so he said to just use the old prom and not bother with the jet chip. i still have, should i put it back in?
the timing is stock i beleive cuz it has to be to pass cali smog, i think?????
the power is there at low rpms, but once i pass like 2000 or so, it boggs. it feels like it hasnt been warmed up, but it does that anytime, on the freeway and such. it only happens when i stomp on the gas. it wont bog when its in park while i just push the pedal slowly down. i dont think i can re-tune the carb because i was under the influence that the ECM did all that carp for me. am i wrong? the exhaust is Edelbrock TES headers with stock cat and flowmaster catback exhaust. when i replaced the motor, the cap, rotor, plugs, wires and coil were alla replaced with new stuff. it passed smog, so i figured everything was fine. but it just boggs and studders at high rpms and it pisses me off cuz i spent alot of money on this little project.
thanks

Years ago in the earily 70's I had a truck and all was fine. Did some work to it and took it out to see how it was .... same problem as yours. It would bogg at about 2000rpms and ONLY in gear. I found out it was the fuel filter!
REMEBER this is on a 1969 vechile!
That was it but it was weird how I could rev it in netural but it would bogg in gear.
I don't know if it is your problem but it is a cheap quick repair.
Good Luck!

Put the jet chip back in, When you ordered the chip which one did you order? I would go to the nearest gm dealer and get a set of dr rod's for the secondarys, and a b or g hanger from edelbrock, jegs has them, that is what I did and it made a nice diffrences. You should have the carb check to you should have the tps set, the mixture control set and even the choke, If you don't know what you are doing bring it to a gm dealer and let them do it, it should cost no more than a 100 bucks. If you are going to bring your car to a shop make sure it is a good or you will just be wasting your money.

i ordered the jet chip, model stage 2 california chip for an 86 camaro with a 305lg4 engine with 4 bbl carb. ill go ahead and install it when you reply to this message, just to make sure you still want me to put it in. how hard are those rods to install? and any gm dealer has them? What are B and G hangers? what do they do?
i havent got the foggiest idea how to adjust my carb cuz i dont want to deal with the electrical connections and all that other junk that surrounds it. im not a total retard tho, i can adjust the mixture screws, i just thought the ECM did that for me. am i wrong on that?
SKI89, i replaced the fuel filter when i put new gaskets in the carb, i hope it still works, it only has like 300 miles on it.
thanks for the help

Any gm dealer should be able to get them for you, I am not sure on the part numbers though, the hanger is what holds the rods in the carb, you will see it by the secondarys on the carb I sugest you change them, tehy are cheap I am using the g hanger and dr rods. Bring the car to a dealer and let them adjust it you will be better off, the ecm controles the carb but it still needs to be manualy adjusted first, it can only control it so much. I would also put the chip in I noticed a big diffrence, I am trying to find a 350 chip though.
