Vats problem I think?

I just replaced the starter and my car wont crank. I checked my error codes on my ecm and it came out as 53 which has something to do with vats right? I also noticed that my vats wires were spliced in to. those are the two wires that go into a connector under the column right? got any ideas what the problem is?

Your vats connector will have two wires going into it on either side, and the wires are usually in a white or orange covering. What is spliced into them?

With the VATS, it could be one of a few things giving you problems. It could be the resistor in the key going bad, it could be a bad connection (probably this one since you said the wires are spliced into), or a bad module.

Take care,
Matt

I looked at the wires closer and they just have heat shrink around them. iM thinking about buying a custom chip from tbi chips.com that disables vats will that solve my problem if its in the wiring or in the module
