i've heard about other people doing this. I'm not sure about the benefits exactly, but I think that it will allow more fuel into the mixture because it will read the air as being much denser. I suppose that would make sense, since you will also be getting more air from the open element air cleaner...

Like I said, i'm not sure exactly how that would work.

"What the relocated MAT really causes, is an increase in the injector pulse width due to the lower temperature reading. This is not noticeable @ part throttle, but becomes very apparent on WOT. I have tested this on the same day, at the same spot, on a 0-100 MPH run and the relocated MAT results in a 10% increase in injector pulse widths on my car."

The concept of the relocated MAT is more pronounced on TPI cars. The MAT in the plenum picks up a lot of latent heat fromt the plenum itself. This results in the computer thinking the incoming air is hotter than it really is. This is why many guys with TPI cars notice how "sluggish" it feels when they turned off their engine and then restart it 5 minutes later. The heat has soaked into the MAT and telling the computer the air is hotter than it really is and gives less fuel.

As Ron said, this is most noticeable @ WOT.

When I had the IAT, I relocated it to behind the headlight assy, just take splicing two wires, running a wire loom along the right fender under the lip. Tie wrap the wire loom in a couple of places. Whole job took less than twenty mins. Did I notice a difference, not in the seat of the pants, but I suspect that was a small difference.
