Car Won't Start!
Car Won't Start!
My 92 bird won't crank and I can't figure out what's wrong with it. Lights on the inside come on, stereo works, but when you turn the key there is nothing. No sound at all. I keep the car in storage and it has been there for about a month. Battery is good. I have a Viper alarm with remote start but I don't know if it could cause the car not to start (safety feature or something). Any ideas on where to start? Is there a certain fuse I could check? Checked the VATS fuse and it was good. Help....

possible cenarios....dead starter solenoid which would definitly cause your problem....the less likely one being your an idiot (i did this before) and dont realize the tranny needs to be in park to start the car
im wondering if its not the solenoid whatever switch is thrown when the car is in park that lets you start it could be messed up?

As far as grey goat is concerned if you are having a similar problem but its a hot start problem it is also probably your solenoid. These cars run extremely hot and heat is one of the things that will make your solenoid not work (age doesnt help). The solution is to install a remote starter solenoid. There is instructions on how to do this on the main thirdgen.org site tech articles area. good luck to both of you with your problems.
check your battery connections and make sure they are tight..
dumb answer, but mine was doing the samw thing. sometimes it started other tiems it did nothing like a dead battery (but i had juice going to everything and everything worked off the battery) i bought a new starter and i was going to put it in and i checked the battery conections and it was very lose. check the terminals

19doug90 says use a remote starter solenoid. I think he means a remote starter switch. It installs between the large terminal on the starter and one of the small terminals on the solenoid. You could even use a screwdriver but be careful, the large wire is directly from the battery. Make sure the car is in neutral. If this does not work, do what trans_am_ta_84 says. After a car sits for awhile, the terminals and clamps can start to corrode, making the connection bad. The go back and test the starter again manually. If it cranks, the problem is somewhere else, like a fusible link. If the starter works, but not with the key, turn the key on, like you are starting the car, make sure the car is in neutral and blocked, use the remote starter. The car should start. If not, look for the links.
