Im wondering wether I should run slightly hotter plugs in my LO3.
when I got the car it had a very mild miss at idle in park and in drive(when actualy crusing its smooth). once I changed the spark plugs the miss went away. well over time the miss gradualy came back.
Im guessing my plugs are fouling, because I know under heavy acceleration my engine runs pig rich(when I floor the gas to pass some one I can smell gas). also when I remove the bolts that are in the exhaust manafolds(AIR equipment removed) and I rev the engine a 3" flame will shoot out of the holes as the engine speed comes down. my gas milage also sux. 200 miles to a tank of gas no matter how I drive.

Now a friend of mine's dad sugested I try running a hotter plug.
He said it would help burn the extra fuel getting dumped into the cylinders and improve my gas milage a little. Im also figureing it will elimnate the plug fouling I get after awile.
what I dont know is what temp plug to try, or if it would even help any.

Do any of you all think it would help? if so what temp plug should I try?

I always use EXXON 93 octane(have tryed 89 and it made no diffrence)
right now Im running Accel plugs that are the stock replacement for the LO3 with stock gap.
I have an MSD 6A box,MSD GM blaster coil,MSD cap/rotor on stock dis and Accel 8mm wires. what would be a good temp plug to try with that ignition set up?

 

stepping down in heat range puts more heat into the chamber stepping up in heat range retains more heat in the plug. i think before i changed plugs thinking that'd fix a problem i'd make sure the tune up was good. if you changed plugs and it took care of your problem you may of just had old wore out plugs of the correct heat range.

 

Try this for a few tankfulls.
Pull the plugs, clean them, open up the gap to 45-55 (MSD's are a wonderfull thing) and run the lowest octane you can find (at a different station). See what that yeilds.

Of course, check your timing especially if your popping a lot of fuel out, and check that O2.
