Comp Cams roller tip rocker arms self aligning?

I just installed new valve stem seals on my 90 Formula 350 and decided to install at set of Comp Cams Magnum roller tip rockers. Now I'm reading about self aligning vs. non self aligning, it seems I may have the non self aliging, do I need to pull these off and put the old factory stuff back on? Do I need to install guideplates if I wanna keep em, sounds like alot of work to put in guideplates. Any and all advice appreciated.

If you pulled self aligners off, you need to put self aligners back on.

Otherwise you have to have the heads machined for guideplates.

Something has to keep the valvetrain in line or the rockers will slide off the tops of the valves eventually.

Thanks engine boy, and from what I read the rocker arms I pulled off have the side tips that go on either side of the valve tip keeping everything lined up, since I'm not ready to pull the heads for guide plates I guess I get to put the old ones back on.

I just wish I had know earlier could have saved some time, I bought em from my friend he had not used em but they were for the earlier model, I did not look into it enough. They are nice though, look like good quality. I'm getting tired of playing with this car though ready to drive it.

WA90,

For about a hundred bucks more you can get fully-rollerized Comp Pro Magnum rockers, self-aligning. They have just recently been released (finally). These are lifetime rockers, since they can be rebuilt with standard RBC roller bearing units.

You're right. You should use the rockers with "lips" or install guide plates. If your cam grind is a little more aggresive than stock, it is probably a good idea to at least install screwed rocker studs. Once this is done, guide plates are easily installed, but can change the valve train geometry to the point where you might need custom push rods. They also take up precious space uncer the center bolt covers.
