Bad track times

Hello, i've been going to the track for the last 4 weeks...i've only managed to run a 9.4 in the 1/8. 60' times are around 2.1. I'm shifting at 5500. I have to run with a 1/2 tank of fuel for traction. - no slicks..... what am i doing wrong??? i'm getting beat by 305's and **** burners, and STOCK CAMARO'S....

Original V6 car.

1972 350 -excellent cond.
305 heads ported 416's
Victor Jr. Manifold
.488/.488 cam....
Holley 3310 750VS 72 primaries,yellow spring - will not bog...
Accel super coil
MSD 8MM wires
1" carb spacer
3 - core aluminum radiator
edelbrock TES

Hughes 2500 stall - have 10"3500 stall sitting next to me
TH350 w/B&M shift Kit
B&M mega shifter
Stock 3.08 non posi rear end
Timing is set for fastest ET's.
16Lbs of air in rear tires.....

seems like a lot of wasted money to me...

It is impossible to find a rear end around here......out of what cars can i remove the posi and put into mine???

Spark plugs are perfect light....light tan..color...gapped .45

Explain a run to us, what happens during a run? or do these runs feel like your getting all the power you use on the streets. Is the motor is just slow all the time??

btw, his 1/8th time converts to a 14.6-14.7 1/4mile time...for anyone wanting to explain....

What's the duration on the cam? What size valves are in the heads? What's you're base timing?

please dont take this the wrong way, but from what you've posted so far (dont know the whole engine combo) it sounds like a miss match combo. the rear gear is way too high(numerically low) for that intake and cam(the cam must be around 232* @.050" judging by the lift numbers). you must just be in the mid point of second gear as your going through the traps. if you keep the gears try a cam around 218* @.050 and a RPM intake. this would more match your head's flow figures i personally beleive. or change the gears to 3.90s or 4.11s if you want faster times. get a posi and slicks. 305 heads work great for mid range torque, but thats about it, in my own opinion.

possibly shifting too high? I dont know if all your mods give you a higher shifting point or not, however I do know that max hp is at 4400, 4500 rpms. Maybe not for you, worth trying though.

my street tired 3.45 posi car can cut 2.07 60' with the TPI 305 on a good track prep night so get a posi and a gear.

Yeah gears and posi will help, however you may have a difficult time getting traction?? With higher gears and all.

With the cam and intake you have, a 3.08 rear gear isn't the best.

4.10's are what you want.

You can get them out of S-10's in the wreckers.
You can get 3.73's out of some Fbodies and GM safari vans.

Set the timing for max mph at the end. should be 32 to 36 total
with high octane gas.
Your're going to need slicks to get good ET's.
What are your 8th mile MPH's like?
Did you try uncapping the exhaust?

Do you have a fuel pressure guage? what is the fuel pressure
at high rpm?
I'd estimate you are loosing .4 sec from the rear gear and about ..5 sec from the lack of traction.
The higher stall will help too.
