I'd go with a single pattern cam with at least 236 dur. Also get it ground on a 112 LS with maybe 2* adv. built in. Call Comp and ask them about it. I actually may be selling my cam which is like the one described. The lift with 1.6 rockers is .555/.555. There's guys that have had good luck with the TPIS solid and hyd. roller cams. Look up 87_TA or Ski_dwn_it, they both know a thing or two about fast 406's. One has a mini-ram and one has a superram, both run mid to low 11's at 120+mph.

Ask some tuning guys. If you're subject to California emissions, you must be mindful of the amount of duration in whatever cam you choose. I've consistently heard that 230 is about the limit... I'm in the same boat of choosing a cam. I know what I want but the smog ****'s are making me hesitate.

I just built a 406 with afr 195's and I went with the TPIS ZZX cam. It is a hydraulic roller made from a billet core and a small base circle. Small base because of the 6" rod clearance. I plan to run 11's on motor and 10's with a little juice. This combo makes about 525 hp according to TPIS. TPIS also makes custom grinds and have always been helpful to me making a decision.

It would seem that CA emissions isn't a concern at all; the MiniRam isn't CARB accepted, so there's no possible way to make it legal to drive on the street, no matter what. Period. It's a non-issue. It won't even make it through the referee process because it has no provision for EGR.
236 degrees on the intake isn't too terribly agressive for a 400. That seems fairly reasonable to me; although it will take a certain amount of PROM tuning to get it to have decent manners in the staging lanes. Since it won't be a street-driven car the tuning requirements will be much less of a hassle.
Get the largest-tube headers you can find.
Joe, you've obviously never lived in California. That state gives a whole new dimension to the notion of "smog ****". I went through that whole thing when I lived in the Carlsbad / Vista / Oceanside area.

Sorry guys, I didn't put 2&2 together. I didn't even notice the part about cam selection complying with emissions. I must have been tired. Anyway, I hope your car is for off-road use if you live in Cal. since you're going w/ the miniram.
