No Fuel,no Start

I just got a 92 RS but it won't start .I know that it's a fuel problem but I want to check all the electrical stuff first. I have a couple of ?? 1.has any on done a fuel pump and how long and how hard was it to do? 2.what is that thing that is under the car in front of the rear bolted to the body with the wires hanging from it? 3. where is the fuel pump relay and is there more then one? Anything will help.If you can think of something else please let me know. THANKS

SpeedNut,

Welcome Aboard!

When you first turn on the ignition, or any time the engine is cranked to start, the fuel pump in the tank should run for two seconds. If you don't hear the pump running, you should check the fuel pump/ECM fuse, the fuel pump relay, and power to the pump. If you have wires hanging loose near the rear axle and fuel tank, it probably isn't a good thing.

Here is the fuel pump circuit:

The FP/ECM fuse is located here:

The fuel pump relay is located here:

If you don't have a running pump, it isn't even going to fire.

How do you know that it's a fuel problem? Did you check for pressure or just know that the injectors aren't spraying fuel?Have you checked for spark yet? Anytime your you're not getting fuel, check for spark. Cause anytime that spark and fuel disappear at the time, it's usually an ignition module. If the ignition module isn't sending an ignition singal to the ECU, the ECU has no idea that you're even trying to start the car so it won't fire the injectors.

I know it is a fuel problem I took some gas with a drip can and had the car running. But seeing how I just got the car I did'nt know the electric system. And thanks to vader I checked all the fuses and relays. Then I jumped the relay and tested the wires going to the fuelpump. There was current going all the way to the fuelpump......................so it's the fuelpump

now about be a good time to do some after market work in the rear end if your going to do any... like shocks, springs, sway bar bushings, lower control arms stuff like that. its the best way to drop the tank is to remove the whole rear end IMO.

Before you go dropping the tank, did you try a fuel filter yet?

Dead injun. You're looking at about 4-6 hours of work, but give yourself a weekend since you are just learning the car.

Oh, and have a large gas can under there, one of the lines you remove will pretty much empty the tank for you if it has any gas in it.

Another tip. Get a small piece of alumnium (2" x 3"), when you go to remove the tank. There is a curled lip on the end of the gas filler neck, and (lovely) there is another curled flange down inside the hole the filler has to pass through and as fate would have it, the filler neck rides hard on thet curled flange during removal and the lip on the filler and down in the hole lock together and won't let the filler come out. Once you get to that point, take your piece of alumnium and wedge it between the two curled lips so the filler can pass right on out.
That ought to keep you from having to invent any new swear words trying to get that @%@%&*^(*(%^$! tank out of there.
