Problem with O'Reilly starters
Ok my car wouldnt start this morning. This is the 4th starter from O'Reilly's that I have put in this thing with the proper shim. Could it be that the solonoid just keeps going out? I know they are remanufactored and all. I had it in there for about a week and a half. Brand new battery too. All it does is do that clicking sound. I have the lifetime warrenty and I could just keep going and get another one but this is taking up too much of my time. What kind of starters would you guys recommend? Jegs, AC Delco??? What won't go out as easilly? Trying not to spend too much money just yet. Thanks

Well everytime I replace the starter my car works. It is getting power to it. Well the starter and solonoid are one unit so it doesnt matter if its one or the other. I just replace the whole thing. I don't think anything else can be the problem. Are you saying it could be my ignition switch?
Starter
I am having the same problem. The car will start when it is "cold" but after driving it a while and after shutting it off, it will not start for about a half and hour. I recently put in a new starter and it kept doing the same thing. It will click a few times, then it won't click at all. The battery is brand new by the way. I haven't got a clue.

More than likely your solenoid is getting heat soaked from the exhaust. Run a remote solenoid off the starter and mount it under your hood, see if that helps. Theres a article in the tech section that will explain how to do this.

I don't have the time to run a remote solenoid or anything fancy like that. I'm busy enough and this is taking up too much of my time as it is cuz I can't drive my car. Would a simple aluminized starter heat shield work? Thats what I'm going to bank on at this moment. I never even thought about the possiblility that could be the case. Thanks for the feedback

A good heat sheild might do ya good, but the solenoid is only a few bucks, check the tech article on it, its a fairly easy, cheap and quick install

I work at O'Reilly's and if you are getting lifetime warranty starters I'll assume it's the Ultima brand. Those are good starters that we don't have a lot of problems with. If you keep returning them, they have to test the starter before accepting the return. Do they all test bad?

Well thats what the guys that worked on my car say. Now when I have a brand new battery and a brand new starter and I'm getting power to it then that is the only thing that turns the car over. Its not even doing that and there is nothing else that could be the problem. I have the proper shims and the connections are brushed off. Now when I put a new one in it works every time. So I'm thinking I can just protect it with the shield. No solenoids are not cheap they are actually more expensive than the starter as a whole. Thats what O'Reilly's told me. Yes they are the Ultima starters.

Oreilly's is feeding you a bunch of crap. You can pick up a solenoid for a few bucks. Go to autozone if O'reilly if ripping you off, the solenoid part for autozome is wells F496, its 5 bucks. Then you need about 4' of battery cable

The point is, the starter gradually becomes more and more in intermittent before it fails completely.

Re: Problem with O'Reilly starters
In my case, I am on my 3rd starter. I ran an emergency bypass under the hood, so that I could start the car when the inside switch would not work. The bypass attaches the Solenoid to a Probe. When I touch the + the starter will go, Click Click, Starter noise. Over time, the problem becomes more consistent. After putting in the 3rd Oreilly starter, the problem went away. Today, my third starter is slowly becoming intermittent again. Now, I have to use my bypass to start my car.
