How do these things idle? As can be seen in my sig, I'm building a .030 over-bore ZZ430. I'm guessing around 450 HP with the over-bore and Zero Gap rings from Childs and Albert. I just want to know how unstreetable it will be! I plan to drive it quite a bit in the summer to work, cruisin, etc....
TIA

Block is in shop!
Awaiting results from all 8 ASE tests.
Starting to look like the Kicker poster child!

Z,
That's actually not that wild a cam grind for a larger engine. With 1.5:1 rockers, the grind is fairly moderate for a 350. You should notice a better torque output starting at around 2,500 RPM on up to the point where it can't get enough air through the intake. The idle will be a little "lumpy" but not anything that should cause serious problems with a stock ECM in you car. If you're keeping a carb, the engine is going to want a little more fuel than you are probably tuned to deliver now. Idle vacuum is respectable on a LT4 grind, and economy should be acceptable for a daily driver.

The only difference id that I'll be using 1.6 ratio rockers.
I'm thinking about having "The Carb Shop" out in CA do me up a Q-jet, and finding someone that can do me a custom chip to get the timing where it should be with the LG4 ECM.
I think it should be a pretty schweet deal!
Building my own ZZ430 is a hell of a lot cheaper than buying one was, too!

I live fairly close to the carb shop here in California and the peolple I've talked to that have had Q-jets done there we're not happy with them at all. So if you know of any other place to get it rebuilt I would recomend that.

I think I'll be cruisin the carb board before making a decision on the carb stuff. That won't be for a while anyway. I still don't even have the shortblock together! I still have to get the rods and have my pistons put on them. I've been taking too long on this, it's time to quit playing around and get it done!
If anyone knows of any good carb shops, let me know. I can work with a carb, rebuild, and some small mods, but I'm gonna want something this is just right for this thing!
