I guess it really depends what you want. Yes, they are very reasonable for the performance you get from them. Chevy High Performance did a recent build up of a Goodwrench 350 and the Vortecs (stock) produced more HP than pocket ported Aluminum L98s.
After pocket porting the Vortecs, they developed even more HP, but bone stock TFS 23* SBC heads developed even more HP.
So if MAXIMUM HP is your goal, there are better for a little more money (and some a lot more money). As I said, it depends on your ultimate objectives. If you want 350 HP, they are just fine. If you want 400+, spend more money.

Also, make sure you consider the cost of making them work for your application, especially if you already have parts like headers and a nice intake. You might be better off for example getting a $1000 set of heads that work with your parts, rather than a $400 set that will cost another $600 to make work.
The vortecs are fine, I did sink some money into a set to get them where I wanted. I have another set that I am about to take to the shop. However, by the time I get them where I want it may be more feasible to buy something like the new trick flow heads. I will probably keep the ones I've already modified and add larger valves this winter. My remaining stock set was to go on a tpi car, I'm really considering just buying a set of trickflows and porting out the stock intake since I found out the vortec/tpi base is supposed to run around 400.00. Then again, the ramjet looks like a decent route with vortecs or fastburns.
