it turns off when i pop it in reverse...

i have a 92 350 firebird and when i pop it in reverse, it shuts off! i feel that the rpm's are too low. and sometimes it doesnt shut off when i pop it in reverse, but when i put it in drive it also turns off, i already replaced the plugs with delcos, changed the belt, changed the air filter, i dont think it needs an oil change just yet, might it be a timing problem? like i said i feel the rpm's are too low. but once i get on the street or on the highway it runs well, the faster i go the better it runs, but the slower i go the worse it gets, can somebody please help me out? this car had a lot of problems when i bought it a few weeks ago, now the only thing left is this problem, thanks for your help!!

Jorge,

So, It's TPI, Have you cleaned the throttle body and IAC air passages? IT would be a good starting point. If that doesn't solve the problem, you may need to remove and clean the IAC stepper motor and pintle. Check this thread for clues:

Hey, check those ground straps from the engine to firewall and make sure their all tight. You could be loosing ground when you torque the motor in reverse. I think there is one from battery to fender too.

Did you click on the thread that Vader sent you ? Hanes has a manual sold at Auto Zone. You can find most of what you need in it.
