It's not a bleeder, it's the hole where they get oil pressure.

It doesn't matter at all.

Yeap, doesn't matter at all. I like to point all of mine down though for some odd reason. I'm just weird like that.

Umm... how do you point those holes down ? Do you put the lifters in sideways ? lol

On mine, you can put the holes in the lifters facing up or down. like this ./ /. I like to do mine all the second way. That's the
/ /
best way I can explain it without showing you myself.

I think what 25THRSS means is which way the oil holes face in relationship to the ground. He likes to have them all face the earth. Since they don't rotate like flat tappets, they stay the way you install them.

I have to say though, this is literally impossible. The weep holes for the oil are on the side of the lifter in relationship to the roller. They have to either be pointing to the rear of the block, or the front. That's if you're talking about factory rollers.

As RB says, it doesn't matter.

If it makes you feel better, install them all the same way.

That is what I mean, but you are incorrect. I am 100% positive that my lifters had the holes facing either up or down. I wish I had taken pictures of them when I put them back into my engine after the cam and head swap, but I dont. I can guarantee you though that they face down to the ground, not to the front or rear of the engine. That I know for sure.

Roller lifters have a roller on the bottom and a push rod seat on the top. That's pretty basic. I think it's probably more important to their function than which way the oil hole faces, though I could be wrong.

So, if it's an issue of whether the hole goes up or down, put the lifters in so that the roller is on the cam (down) and the push rod has a place to go (on the top). Let the hole go wherever it needs to.

lol, no ****. I think you are misunderstanding me. When I removed my heads and took out my cam I removed my lifters as well to keep them from falling down which is obvious. I'm no novice here. I know what I am talking about seeing as how I built the damn motor myself. What I meant was that when I put the lifters back in, which yes I put the roller against the cam duh. You can only put the lifters in 2 ways, with the holes facing towards the ground or the holes facing toward the sky. Others said that they could only face towards the front or the rear of the engine, but mine do not. Mine point towards the ground or the sky, which I chose to point them all towards the ground because like you said, for some reason it made me feel better. There really is no debate because I am 100% sure of where the holes were on my lifters. Thank you. BTW they were the stock hydrolic roller lifters from a 2000 Z28.

Not to be an idiot, but..... from the lifter's point of view, toward the ground = toward the cam, and toward the sky = toward the push rod, no? This is a horizontal crankshaft V8, no? I feel stupid somehow, I'm not seeing how it's possible to invert a lifter that particular way.

Are the LS1 lifters the same as the L03 ones?

no, what I meant by that was the engine is V8 correct, so the cylinders are in a v shape which means that they can not face straight up or down. The lifters are in the engine at an angle obviously. The sky being toward the intake manifold and the ground being toward the headers. Get what I'm saying? Sorry for not making sense at first. I don't know if the lifters are the same on the L03 and the LS1 or not, but they look the same. Everything I am referring to anyways was when I put the heads and cam on my LS1, not the L03. Both are still small blocks and both have roller cams, etc so it still applies here I thought. As far as I know, all sbc's use the same lifter design regardless if it be L03, L98, Lt1, or LS1, but correct me if I am wrong.

Well let me pull one out of my ****.

As you can see, the oil hole is on the SIDE of the lifter. Therefore front OR rear of the engine are the two choices.

I can't imagine the LS1 using the same lifters, but one time I imagined a purple haired Chevy fan in one of Vader's posts.

BTW, did I mention I ate an L31.

Oh I see what you mean.... makes sense now.... but I think a better word to describe which way it points might be "inward" or "outward", not "up" or "down".

But it's the same deal, that hole is what feeds oil pressure into the lifter from the gallery that it goes through, it makes no difference whatsoever which way it faces.

Sorry I'm so dense.

That's exactly how my LS1 lifters looked except the hole was about 90 degrees to the right or left, lol. Dunno why, but like rb said it really shouldn't matter. Just thought I would defend myself when someone else tried to make me look dumb. I am 100% positive that the lifters on my 2000 LS1 engine had the hole facing down (or up). Like I said, I wish I had taken pics, but I didn't and there is no way I am going to go pull the heads off now, lol.
