Can anyone reccomend a good brand of remenufactured starter? I would rather pay a little more that have to do the job again in one or two years.

Regards,
William

I bought a reman starter for my truck at NAPA. It lasted 6 months then died. I went to the junk yard and found one that looked in good condition. That was 4 years ago and it still works fine at a fraction of the price of a new one.

NAPA is a peice of ****

Kragans is OK

If you want one thats going to last, look for an aftermarket Unit, Summit has a few that are quite resonably Priced, I have no personal experiance with them But Most Stuff with the Summit Name is quite High Quality.

For the money, you can't beat an AC-DELCO starter. They're about $25 more than most discount parts stores, and they only have a 1 year warranty. However, they will last ALOT longer than most anything else you can get. If you can't get a local dealer to give you wholesale, try somewhere like www.gmpartsdirect.com.

I'd go with an AC Delco reman starter. I worked for a parts store for about 5 years, and we sold those to people willing to pay. The other junk we carried would come back at about a 20-30% rate, while I can only remember 2 Delcos coming back while I was there. One was a $2xx vette starter that was bad right outa the box. Try to find a place that will give you a better warranty on it though, because unless something has changed, Delco only gives a 90 day warranty. We would take them back up to 5 years. Better to be safe than sorry...

EDIT: I see someone is thinking the same I am
A year huh? Thats new and different...

I used to replace stock starters about 1 every 8 to 10 months in my RS. I switched to a mini torque starter ( $119.00 ) it's now been in there over a year and a half. Just a thought, but you could give it a try.

i work at a parts store and the brand of reman starters/alternators we carried sucked. it was called Perfection. we got tons of them back as defects, but the company still gave a lifetime warranty. anyway i put one on my car a while ago and it works fine...but ive had them go after a month too so its just luck i guess. theres a good brand out there...starts with an "R" but i just cant remember the rest. oh well..

I get mine from a shop, where the owner rebuilds alternators & starters himself. I'm on my second one of his ($60 each) in six years- not too shabby!
